This is APA Communications Deputy Chairman First Officer Scott Shankland with the APA Information Hotline for Friday, March 12.

APRIL 1 FURLOUGHS CANCELED: Management informed Negotiating Committee Chairman First Officer Neil Roghair this morning that they have decided to cancel the furloughs that had been scheduled for April 1. First Officer Roghair reports that the reasons management gave for rethinking the April 1 furloughs are “an uptick in interest in retirements and the level of interest in the February 28 furlough mitigation.”

We will share with you any additional relevant information we receive concerning this welcome reversal. If this news affects your own plans in any way, we encourage you to contact First Officer Roghair or Membership/Furlough Committee Chairman Captain Rusty McDaniels.

APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: Following a strategy session in the DFW-area with the APA Negotiating Committee that began at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 8 and continued through mid-day on Thursday, March 11, the Board of Directors convened on the afternoon of the 11th for a brief meeting. During this meeting, the Board took the following actions:

• Approved a motion increasing the Negotiating Committee’s fiscal year 2010 budget by $180,000.

• Elected DFW Captain Dave Brown and DFW First Officer Per Lovfald to the Negotiating Committee.

• Appointed Negotiating Committee member First Officer Neil Roghair to serve as chairman of that committee. First Officer Roghair succeeds Captain Wilson, who recently resigned from the committee.

• Approved a motion increasing the System Board’s budget by $157,425 to cover expenses incurred in the joint business agreement mediation and arbitration processes.

• Approved a motion waiving policy governing the site of the spring Board meeting in order to hold the meeting at APA headquarters. The meeting is scheduled for May 17-21.

IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE ALERT: We would like to thank those of you who have already responded by the legislative alert we issued on Tuesday, March 9 concerning the FAA appropriations bill now being debated by the U.S. Senate. This legislative alert asks each of you to take a couple of minutes to urge your two U.S. senators to pass an appropriations bill that includes language raising the minimum new-hire standards for Part 121 pilots. For those of you who haven’t yet responded to this important legislative alert, click here to do so now.

That’s all we have for today. Thanks for checking this message.
