This is APA Communications Committee member First Officer Scott Shankland with the APA Information Hotline for Friday, February 6.
NEW MEMBERSHIP PREFERENCE SURVEY: On your mark, get set…GO! The new membership preference survey is ready and will be active tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning at 12 p.m. EST. The online survey will be active for one month and can be accessed from the home page of alliedpilots.org. Our goal is to break the last survey’s participation record. This is an opportunity for every member to demonstrate their participation in achieving the most important contract of our careers.
WINTER APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: The regularly scheduled Winter APA Board of Directors meeting will convene at APA headquarters at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 9. The meeting is scheduled to run through Thursday. All members in good standing are invited to attend all portions conducted in open session.
NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT DAY: On Tuesday, March 3, APA will be hosting National Announcement Day (NAD), a system-wide national domicile meeting specifically designed to kick off a membership education campaign concerning APA’s conduct of self-help. Unfortunately, management’s continued disingenuous conduct at the negotiating table appears to be pushing us toward an impasse. As a result, APA must now complete preparations for a National Mediation Board release and finish developing our tactics for the legal employment of alternative self-help. National Announcement Day is the initiation of the end game for our current bargaining.
NAD will include a briefing of our current status within the Railway Labor Act process and the prospects of future bargaining progress. We will then discuss the prospects of an impasse and a subsequent NMB release, followed by a look at how your union intends to conduct self-help. Membership understanding of each person’s role, participation and responsibilities during self-help is the most critical part of our final preparations. This is information all members must have and understand -- so plan to attend!
NAD is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, and will occur at all nine domiciles. The meetings will be conducted by your domicile officers, who will be assisted by national leadership representatives. Domicile-specific times and locations are available on alliedpilots.org.
ADDITIONAL PILOT RECALLS ANNOUNCED: This week, AMR management announced the creation of a second pilot recall class for the month of March. An initial recall group of 39 pilots will begin Feb. 11 and will now be followed by a group of 10 pilots on March 4 and another group of seven pilots on March 18. An additional 15 pilots have been recalled, but will be placed on military leave of absence.
NEW PILOT PERSPECTIVE VIDEO: Finally, your APA Communications Committee will be posting a new Pilot Perspective video to alliedpilots.org on Monday. This video focuses on Family Awareness and includes an introduction by APA President Captain Lloyd Hill. Please take time to view this informative video, which highlights how important family support is as we progress into the most stressful part of the bargaining process.
That’s all we have for this week. Thanks for checking this hotline.
