This is APA Vice President Captain Tom Westbrook with the APA Information Hotline for Friday, May 15.
30-DAY SICK ARBITRATION RULING: Earlier today, APA announced that Arbitrator Richard Bloch has issued his award and opinion on APA’s Presidential Grievance regarding the Flight Department’s 30-day sick policy. Arbitrator Bloch ruled in APA’s favor, stating that a pilot’s “eligibility for sick pay shall not require written verification.”
This victory is the result of three years of hard work and is a major step in our effort to roll back management’s assault on our contract. For more information on the ruling, please refer to today’s e-mail message to all members. The message can also be viewed on the alliedpilots.org Web site under "Headquarters E-mail."
JOINT BUSINESS AGREEMENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT: On Tuesday, APA launched a legislative alert concerning AMR’s application to the Department of Transportation (DOT) for antitrust immunity. If approved, AMR’s virtual merger with British Airways, Iberia and other oneworld partners will put AA employee jobs at risk of outsourcing to international carriers.
To be clear, our jobs and flying opportunities are at risk! There is no more important issue and our members are stepping up to be heard. Since the legislative alert was issued, APA members have sent more than 5,000 messages to President Obama, Vice President Biden, select members of Congress and the DOT. APA will also compile all messages sent to the DOT and submit them for inclusion in the comment period docket. To join your fellow pilots and voice your opinion against this virtual merger, refer to Tuesday’s legislative alert e-mail or go to the members’ home page of the alliedpilots.org Web site and click on the "Take Action: Legislative Alert" button.
SPRING BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: On Sunday, the APA Board of Directors, National Officers and select national committee members will meet at APA headquarters for the regularly scheduled spring meeting. The meeting will commence at 9 a.m. Sunday and is scheduled to run through Thursday. All members in good standing are welcome to attend open portions of the meeting.
That’s all we have for today. Remember, your participation is essential to our success in getting the contract you deserve! Thanks for checking this hotline.
