This is APA Communications Committee Chairman Captain Sam Mayer with the APA Information Hotline for Monday, October 5.

APA BOARD APPROVES AGREEMENT ON CPA DEFERRED COMPENSATION ISSUE: This afternoon, during the continuation of its annual fall meeting, the APA Board of Directors approved the agreement reached earlier with AMR management to prevent banked CPA time from being considered deferred compensation. The agreement will prevent any exposure to IRS deferred compensation penalties for pilot CPA time.

The APA National Officers and Board of Directors were briefed on the proposed agreement by the members who participated in the bargaining: Captain Dave Brown, Captain Marc Spiegel, First Officer Reif Reifsnyder and First Officer Scott Nielson. The primary provisions of the agreement include:

* CPA time earned in 2008 will be paid in the Nov. 25, 2009 pay check.

* Vacation time converted to CPA between May 1, 2008 and April 20, 2009 will also be paid in the Nov. 25, 2009 pay check.

* All CPA and vacation hours converted to CPA earned in 2009 (as of Jan. 30, 2010) will be paid out in the Feb. 25, 2010 pay check.

* It is important to note that since vacation time for March and April 2010 will have already been paid out at the end of February, any sequences or reserve duty days dropped due to vacation in March and April 2010 will be unpaid and uncredited.

The letter of agreement and a detailed list of questions-and-answers on the new CPA agreement are available on the home page of the alliedpilots.org Web site. The APA Contract Administration department is also available to field questions at 1-800-323-1470, ext. 3040.

That’s all we have for today. Thanks for checking this hotline.
