December 31, 2009
This is APA Vice President
Captain Tom Westbrook with the APA Information Hotline for Thursday, December
31.
ATTENTION ALL
FFDOs: The APA Committee for the Armed Defense of the Cockpit has been
asked by the TSA Federal Air Marshal Service to inform all Federal Flight Deck
Officers who were required to have their recurrent training completed by
January 1, 2010 that they have been granted an automatic extension. If you
received a letter that asked you to turn in your equipment, please disregard
it.
Please note that
FFDOs are still required to attend requalification training while they are
waiting to complete recurrent training.
Please check the
TSA dashboard for more details.
ONE YEAR ENDS
AND ANOTHER BEGINS: 2009 has been a challenging year for our nation, our
industry and our airline. As this difficult year draws to a close, our landing
accident in Kingston and the attempted terrorist bombing of a Northwest
Airlines flight serve as vivid reminders of the challenges our pilots face with
every flight. Flying our passengers across the country and around the world is
more than just a job ─ it is a calling to a profession of immense
responsibility and leadership. Your commitment to both our airline and our
union is remarkable and too often goes unrecognized.
I want to add my
personal thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time to APA this year.
Every contribution of time and talent makes a difference in the lives of other
pilots and their families. On behalf of all who have benefited from your
service ─ thank you.
Please note that
APA headquarters will close at 3 p.m. today. We will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday,
January 4. On behalf of APA, including its leadership, volunteers and staff, I
want to wish you all a happy, safe and healthy new year!
