This is APA Communications Chairman Captain Sam Mayer with the APA Information Hotline for Monday, January 18.

PAP FLIGHTS TO BEGIN: Tomorrow, American Airlines will begin military charter operations under Supplement H of our collective bargaining agreement into Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with 767s and/or 737s. The flights will be transporting military personnel and their supplies in and U.S. citizens out.

In order to assess the operation, tomorrow’s flight will be staffed by check airmen and managers. The Flight Department plans to open the flying to line pilots later in the week if additional flights are scheduled.

APA has been in contact with Flight Department managers, and they have informed us that these flights will go through the normal process for the filling of open time. They have also indicated that initially, pilots awarded these sequences will be displaced by check airmen and management pilots.

Also, please be advised that under our Green Book, no pilot can be forced to fly military charter flying. If you are not interested in this assignment, please inform Crew Scheduling when they make contact with you.

The APA Negotiating Committee is working closely with the Flight Department, and we will keep you informed of any developments as they occur.

That’s all we have for today. Thanks for checking this hotline.
