This is APA Communications Deputy Chairman First Officer Scott Shankland with the APA Information Hotline update for Wednesday, January 27.
PILOT FURLOUGH UPDATE: Last week we announced that AA management unexpectedly informed APA of their intention to resume furloughing pilots. Management’s furlough prediction is 175 pilots during the next two months.
The APA Board of Directors has provided the negotiating committee with specific guidance to pursue furlough mitigation strategies with company negotiators. Those discussions are ongoing with AA management.
In the meantime, two already existing furlough mitigation tools are “Stand-in-Stead Furloughs” and “Leaves of Absences.” If any of you have been contemplating taking an extended break from flying, one of these methods may allow you to do so, while preventing the furlough of a more junior member. If you want to volunteer for, or have any questions regarding Leaves of Absences or Stand-in-Stead furloughs, click on the prominently displayed button on the members’ homepage of the alliedpilots.org Web site.
We will keep you updated as further furlough-related developments warrant.
That’s all we have for today. Thanks for checking this message.
