March 31, 2010
This is APA Communications Committee member First Officer Scott Shankland with the APA Information Hotline for Wednesday, March 31.
AMERICAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES INTERLINE AGREEMENT, DCA-JFK SLOT SWAP WITH JETBLUE: This morning AMR management announced what they described as a “partnership” with JetBlue Airways focusing on the New York market. The APA Negotiating Committee received an advance briefing on this development late yesterday from management.
Under the terms of the agreement with JetBlue, American Airlines plans to transfer eight slot pairs at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. and one slot pair at White Plains to JetBlue. In turn, Jet Blue plans to transfer 12 slot pairs at JFK to American Airlines.
American Airlines and American Eagle will operate a total of 31 new flights from LaGuardia and JFK by the end of 2010. Details on what service will be reduced or eliminated were not yet available.
APA is currently assessing various facets of this announcement to determine its impact on our pilots.
APA PRESIDENT APPOINTS NEW SAFETY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: APA President Captain Lloyd Hill has appointed First Officer Brian Beach to serve as Safety Committee Chairman, effective immediately. First Officer Beach—who had been serving as a deputy chairman of that committee—replaces First Officer Mike Michaelis in this key position. First Officer Michaelis recently learned that he is being called to active military duty, which precludes him from continuing to chair the committee. He will continue serving as a member of the committee.
In informing the APA Board of Directors this morning of the change, Captain Hill praised First Officer Michaelis’ lengthy tenure and excellent service as committee chair and expressed confidence in a smooth transition as First Officer Beach assumes the chairman’s seat.
APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS CONFERENCE CALL—POLICY WAIVER: The APA Board of Directors waived policy during a voting conference call yesterday afternoon regarding the procedure for approval of domicile representatives’ domicile-paid union leave. The motion waived policy in Policy Manual Section 6.05.B.
That’s all we have for today. Thanks for checking this message.
